Gerald Rober Prepejchal Sr.
Gerald Robert Prepejchal Sr., beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered into the kingdom of heaven on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elsa Dolores Prepejchal.
He is survived by son Gerald Robert Prepejchal Jr. (Mary Sanchez) and grandchildren Alysse and Aaron; son Robert Louis Prepejchal (Diana Olivarez) and grandchildren Jessica, Anthony and Dane; great- grandchildren Justine, Eleazar, Saphira, Ryan and Avery; daughter Nancy Cornelia Prepejchal Otero (Gregory Otero Jr.) and grandchildren Christian, Savannah, James and Samuel; and great-grandchildren Christian and Penelope.
Gerald is a Korean War veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart, Korean Service Ribbon, two Bronze Service medals, Combat Infantry Badge and National Defense Service Medal. He served for his country courageously and honorably. Once retired, he worked for H-E-B. on Central Boulevard in Brownsville for 16 years in the produce section, as greeter and in customer service. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends but will never be forgotten. His memory will stay alive in our hearts forever.
Pallbearers are Gerald Jr., Robert, Anthony, Dane, Gregory and James.
Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron and Eleazar.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. to be officiated by Msgr. Briseno of Immaculate Heart of Mary at Sunset Funeral Home in Los Fresnos.
Full military honors will be accorded at 5 p.m. Jan. 4 before the rosary by American Legion Post 43 of Brownsville.
A chapel service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Sunset Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
The family would like to give special thanks to South Texas Oncology, Odyssey Hospice and Sunshine Haven Hospice Facility for the special attention they offered.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sunshine Haven Hospice Facility in Olmito.
